New Voices- Call For Artists

Guest of Honour: Legendary historian- Warhol Expert and curator Dr Jean Wainwright

What is the direction contemporary art is heading? Can we still call it contemporary, or are we moving into a new era?

The art market is shifting, and for the first time in decades the balance of power is returning to the artists themselves. With more work being shared and sold through social networks, we are witnessing the rise of new voices as never before.

How will the old and the new blend, what will emerge, and what will survive? These timeless questions rarely have a single answer, but we can gain unique insight from someone whose career spans decades of research, thousands of artist interviews, and a reputation as one of the world’s leading experts on Andy Warhol, Dr Jean Wainwright.

“Casting light upon our opening event is the renowned historian and curator, Dr Jean Wainwright, who will give a talk on the exhibition theme on 10 October.”

Dr Jean Wainwright is an internationally recognised art historian, curator, critic, and broadcaster, acclaimed for her expertise on Andy Warhol and contemporary art. She has conducted over 2,000 interviews with artists, curators, and filmmakers, many archived at Tate, making her one of the foremost voices in artist oral history. A Professor Emerita at the University for the Creative Arts, she has published extensively, curated landmark exhibitions including Andy Warhol: My True Story (2025), and served as consultant for the BBC series Andy Warhol’s America (2022). Her curatorial projects span political, social, and cultural themes, from Gestures of Resistance to Ship to Shore. Alongside celebrating established figures, Wainwright is a champion of new voices, mentoring emerging artists and ensuring contemporary practice remains vibrant, inclusive, and globally relevant.

New Voices celebrates the urgency and innovation of art today. Uniting artists across generations and disciplines, it becomes a platform where tradition collides with experimentation, amplifying fresh perspectives and redefining the future of contemporary practice.
